"This episode shows that the UK are suckers for enforcing EU regulations to the letter while the French disregard them with impunity. The quicker we extract ourselves from this EU scam the better." - UKIP Deputy Leader Paul Nuttall MEP

British national Simon Butler, 51 (pictured below), fully qualified with International Ski Instruction Diploma 4, as well as a Memorandum of Understanding stamp that should be recognised by the French government, was last week lifted by French authorities and prevented from working as a ski instructor in France.

In his own words Mr Butler told UKIP that he was "released from the gendarmerie having been arrested with the rest of our instructors on Tuesday morning.

"I spent most of the time in a cell except when being questioned and my bed was a concrete slab as I was not released to go home and come back the next day.

"I was taken yesterday evening at high speed in a police van which was a terrifying ride to the court in Bonneville where I met the Procurer and a judge. I have a court case on April 7th and I am not allowed to leave the country and I must sign in at the gendarmerie once a week.

"The Haute Savoir prefect has placed an arrest on myself and the team to stop us working. This is effectively forcing my business to close. I am desperate to get this decision reversed and hope that you could contact the colleges of Mr Barnier to get this arrest reversed."

In response UKIP deputy leader Paul Nuttall said:

"Those raging Europhiles who claim there is a single market should read this story and weep. They have simply misled people as this episode shows.

"Simon Butler has been treated like a dog by French authorities because he is a British national who wanted to work as a ski instructor and run a thriving business.

"The French authorities have schemed, bullied and harassed this innocent man for years. They have made his life hell , putting him in court, in a cell and eventually forced him to close his business. The French authority should be ashamed for their actions. They have done everything to circumvent EU regulations of recognising his qualifications – it is a simple case of French protectionism and racism rolled into one.

"Unlike other parties who have done nothing for Mr Butler , UKIP have supported Simon Butler in every way possible, MEP Stuart Agnew accompanied him to a court case in 2013 and I took him to meet Commissioner Michel Barnier in January this year – but all to no avail because of the EU.

"For all their talk of the EU recognising equivalent qualifications,  the European Commission have not helped this man's case at all. After meeting Barnier, the French authorities still slammed him in a disgusting holding cell for 36 hours.

"This episode shows that the UK are suckers for enforcing EU regulations to the letter while the French disregard them with impunity. The quicker we extract ourselves from this EU scam the
better."
