"Very often in Britain, MEPs complain that they haven't got a high enough profile with the public and I want to try and change that today because Brigadier Geoffrey Van Orden, sitting behind me here - British Conservative - was the rapporteur, the sponsor for Bulgaria joining the European Union and for us having a total open door to all of those people.

"So well done, Brigadier! And I want all the British people to know who you are and what your achievements are.
" - UKIP Leader Nigel Farage MEP, Strasbourg.

UKIP Leader, Nigel Farage, made a speech in the European Parliament (11.12.2013) reminding the British voters that we open the doors to 29 million Romanian and Bulgarian citizens on 1st January next, and that this is all down to the Conservative Party.

He pointed out that the Report recommending Bulgarian entry to the European Union was written by Conservative MEP Geoffrey Van Orden, or ‘Uncle Bulgaria’ as he is now known to the UKIP MEPs.

Although the Labour and  Lib-Dem parties also fully supported Romanian and Bulgarian entry, the Tories wrote the report that was voted on in the Parliament that said these countries were fully acceptable as EU members.

Only UKIP MEPs voted against their entry. The Lib-Lab-Con also fully support Turkish entry to the EU, and always vote in favour when there is one the periodic progress reports charting Turkey’s application to join.
