"What is happening here has got nothing to do with any political reason whatsoever. There were no demands coming from the rioters or protesters. This is just opportunistic crime taking place on an absolutely massive scale." - Nigel Farage MEP.

UKIP Leader Nigel Farage on the decisive action needed to prevent the riots terrorising Londoners from spreading even further.

Excerpts:
"I very well remember, 30 years ago, the Brixton riots... and if you remember, there was a cause... the Black community were absolutely furious with the police over what were then called the 'sus laws', and it led to a change in the law."

"What is happening here has got nothing to do with any political reason whatsoever. There were no demands coming from the rioters or protesters. This is just opportunistic crime taking place on an absolutely massive scale."

"It's perfectly clear, whether you criticise the police's actions or not, there simply aren't enough of them to deal with hundreds of outbreaks of violence. There are today millions of Londoners that are literally terrified."

"I've always been a great libertarian. I don't want the state to interfere in our lives. I hate the fact that we are photographed and recorded wherever we go, but frankly, to protect the innocent majority the government needs to take radical action, and take it today. We've got to put the army on the streets to allow the police to be able to get on with their job and to protect those people from what may occur

"I'm not talking about a military take-over; the [troops] should be under the directorship of the Metropolitan Police, but unless something happens very quickly my fear is this thing could spread completely and hopelessly out of control."
