UKIP MEPs were joined by staff of all nationalities at the annual Remembrance Day service at the 'Secret Army' memorial, Place Frere Orban, Brussels.

The service was once again conducted by Father Aethelwine, although this year the 2 minute silence was observed one hour early as the European Parliament does not recognise the Armistice Day holiday, which is celebrated nationally in Belgium, and had scheduled voting in the mini plenary session for 11 a.m.

In a moving ceremony, the dead of two world wars and more recent conflicts around the world were remembered, and a wreath was laid at the memorial, which commemorates the dead of the Belgian resistance during WWII - the 'Secret Army'.

The memorial is overlooked by a church which was itself a stop on the 'underground railroad' which helped downed allied pilots return to Britain during the war.
