• While the UK's taxpayers are facing rising taxes and cuts to public services to clear the budget deficit, the EU has been caught paying more than €3 billion in sweetners to Serbia which is not even a Member of the EU."The EU constantly wastes taxpayers' money, but this is too much.
This only came to light when a UKIP MEP William Dartmouth asked a Parliamentary Question to find out what financial support had been given to Serbia.
The grants and loans are channelled through various initiatives including the Community Assistance for Reconstruction, Development and Stabilisation Programme (CARDS), and the Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance (IPA).
Yet more money will be paid out to Serbia to help the country through the current global economic crisis.
William Dartmouth said: "I am outraged that over €3 billion is going to a country that isn't even in the EU.
"It seems that the EU is so keen for Serbia to join, they are effectively bribing them.
"If I had not asked the question, it is unlikely that the €3 billion sweetner would be known. It's exactly what the Eurocrats do best to keep hidden.
"The only way Britain can guarantee its people's money being spent where it should be is by pulling out of the EU, and regaining control of our finances."
