The behaviour of Spanish authorities towards these desperate Africans is a reflection of the attitude of Madrid towards the rule of law.
We heard last week that the Catalan president is to be charged with the crime of "disobedience" because he held an unofficial referendum on Catalan independence. He may now face up to a year in prison and be banned from public office for ten years.
Does anyone in this chamber imagine that the Spanish officials who are breaking the law by throwing migrants back over the fence will ever be threatened with such a punishment as at year in prison? They will not be threatened with any punishment at all.
As for their transgressions against Gibraltarian sovereignty, I rest my case.
